The Things We Carry: Brownie’s Journey from the Streets to Safety
Story is from The Great Catsby – A ROLDA-funded local cat rescue partner The woman who reached out to us didn’t know what else to do. For weeks, she had been watching them. A small brown cat and her two tiny kittens were surviving in the grubby, desolate gap between apartment buildings, where no one ... Blog
I survived these mighty mites!
Alien survived a horrible infestation of fleas and ticks. Today, he is living at our ROLDA sanctuary happily waiting to be adopted. Alien was found by ROLDA rescuers in early spring, already completely covered with fleas and ticks.
Help for Chick
Chick was found not far from our shelter. She was extremely dehydrated and full of parasites. Flies were feeding on her bloody, cracked skin caused by repeated biting and scratching. She had chewed through most of her fur, leaving her damaged skin exposed to horrible infections which, sadly, had already begun to consume her from the outside in.
Help for Hera
Hera was found on the streets. Her entire body was covered in tar that had matted her fur and even oozed deep to her skin. We can’t imagine the pain she had suffered…well, to be honest, we don’t want to imagine.
Help for Buck
BUCK was rescued from the street after being hit by speeding a car. We were contacted by an individual who had witnessed the horrible collision. Moments later, our Rescue Team arrived at the scene to transport Buck to our clinic.
Help for Bar
BAR was discovered behind a bush whimpering softly and breathing erratically as if he no longer had the strength or the will to communicate his agony to the world…as if he literally chose this spot to spend his dying days…alone, as if not to disturb the world around him.
ROLDA in Caracal
My name is Dana and I live in Caracal, Olt county. For many years, I save cats and I consider that the first step to stop the abandons is to spay/neuter cats. I contacted ROLDA who helped me already cover a large number of sterilizations for cats from Caracal town.
ROLDA in Tulcea
Starting in September 2021, ROLDA expanded its support to the nearby county, Tulcea. Danube river separates Galati and Tulcea counties (10 minutes by boat, which was the only connection between these two counties before the bridge was built).
ROLDA helps poor communities pets to live with dignity
The law says: Pet Dogs in Romania must be sterilized and microchipped. Dogs that belong to people must be sterilized, microchipped and registered in a National Registry (database) of dogs owners called RECS. This is a general rule that became effective in 2016.
20000 hundar utan hem i Galati, Rumänien
Våra ROLDA hundgårdar finns i Galati, en industriregion i östra Rumänien. Beståndet av hundar har växt okontrollerat här både beroende på att folk övergav denna del av landet och på grund av att man förflyttade hundar hit!
ROLDA fights against Wild Animals in captivity
People who exploit animals for profit, or any other reason, believe that humans have the right to use animals as they please. Animal exploitation is animal cruelty.
ROLDA fights against Illegal Live Animals Transport
The illegal animal trade is a billion-dollar business that only exists because there is a demand. If people did not demand animals—for food, medicine, trophies, clothing, and so forth—no one would bother to smuggle them.
ROLDA fights against Illegal Shelters
Since 2013, public dog shelters in Romania have been allowed to euthanize dogs if they are not claimed or adopted in 14 days. However, the neglect and abuse these captured dogs suffer while incarcerated have been well documented, but nothing has been done to stop this atrocious behavior.
ROLDA fights against uncontrolled animal reproduction
Like most developing countries, Romania has an overwhelming stray animal population. Sadly, stray dogs and cats are viewed as public nuisances and are poorly treated.
ROLDA fights against animal cruelty
Sadly, our society continues to accept and condone animal cruelty through indifference and ignorance. Despite the numerous animal welfare organizations that exist today, animal cruelty remains a severe issue because it is a systemic problem in many cultures.
ROLDA Fights against Animal Abandonment
Abandoning an animal is a decision that is always traumatic to the pet and sometimes to the owner. In most cases, pet abandonment is avoidable. There are many excuses said by pet owners who abandon their pets, the most common being the animal’s age, health, size, and behavior.
Responsible rehoming of rescued dogs
ROLDA has representatives in Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK where our dogs are rehomed as long as the adopter complies with our rules and regulations implemented to protect our dogs’ health and safety.
Romania strays
In the late 90s, spaying, and neutering were not standard practices in Galati. Its local pound, where dogs were electrocuted and skinned alive during the communist regime, was still operational.
Romania pets
ROLDA helps impoverished pet owners by providing food and medicine for their pets. We also help pay for their pet’s vaccinations, sterilization, identification, and surgeries.
Animal welfare in Romania
ROLDA focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming stray dogs in Galati, Romania. Most of the dogs rescued have suffered illness and injury due to starvation, neglect, and abuse.
President message 2021
You may guess I would begin with a story about a dog. However, this time I want to write about you because no matter how desperate I am to save dogs in need in Romania, no matter how this consumes me every day, this is not everything that makes me who I am. I want to improve and avoid mistakes. Sometimes I struggle to communicate and may not rise to your expectations.
The last letter from a stray to his human companion
I write this letter because it’s important that this dog story be told. I don’t intend to make you sad, but if you read the letter until the end, you will agree with me that we still can save the dog's World and reshape the future of many who still have a chance and for whom it’s not yet too later.
1 minute, time of a whole life
If I will take only 1 minute from your time, I would quickly tell you that ROLDA continues to need you to transform the lives of abused and neglected dogs in a country with 2.5 million strays. Because every minute in Romania a dog is hit by a car and suffer until he passes away, alone. When you will finish reading the whole message, 1 more will be gone in dogs Heaven, either from under a truck wheel or from a horrible dog pound.
Speak Toto language!
A few years ago, a child was killed by dogs in Romania. Media presented this subject but solutions were searched only during the time this subject was hot. We, at ROLDA, consider that animals and people can live in harmony, but rules must be respected, on both sides. Romania, and especially the rural part of the country, lack education and this affect both animals and people.
President message 2020
The modern human prefers to speak alone on a phone that has a mechanic job to convert accurately sounds into words, when not very many years ago, people were hand-writing letters to each other as a sign of appreciation.
