Shop and help: 100% of profits go to animals in need
Few days after the war in Ukraine started, for the first time in ROLDA history, we went beyond our country’s borders. Ukraine is an emergency and we couldn’t remain indifferent. It was not something we planned, but something we supported in our hearts.
Since 1999, we have fought for animals abused, neglected, and abandoned and we often considered Romania not to be a safe place for animals. However, the recent situation in Ukraine gave us a different perspective and reminded us that it can always be worse.
Donate today and your gift will be matched by our Swiss partner. This gift-matching campaign starts on 15th September and lasts until 15th October.
Even though our work is very much focused in Romania, it is very clear that animals in Ukraine are in great danger and need our help now. ROLDA made a promise to never let down an animal in need and we keep our promises.

These nine beauties could all have been abandoned… or worse. Sacha and Nero had puppies their owner couldn’t afford to keep. It was a nightmare that would have ended in disaster if it weren’t for ROLDA.
When beautiful animals like Sacha and Nero were expecting puppies, it should have been a happy time. Their owners should have been eagerly looking forward to welcoming and lining up new homes for their dogs’ babies, hoping they would be as cute as their parents.
Instead, Sasha’s pregnancy caused nothing but worry and stress because the family, who live not far from us near Galati, were really struggling financially along with so many of their neighbors.
They were just about managing to feed themselves and their pets and had never been able to afford the money to sterilize, microchip, and register Sacha or Nero. So when Sacha gave birth to seven little ones, there was more despair than joy. Finding an extra $400+ to make all the dogs legal within 90 days was impossible. To add to their situation, they didn’t have enough money to pay the fines if they were caught keeping unregistered pets, so all the dogs had to go.
It depresses us to say that many owners would have heartlessly disposed of them. If not killing them, taking them far from home to disorientate them and abandoning them all to fend for themselves. If this had been the fate of Sacha, Nero, and their young families, they could easily have found themselves at risk from the corrupt state-sponsored catch-and-kill squads that callously target gentle, rejected dogs who crave the human affection they’ve lost. Trusting victims are rounded up, taken to squalid compounds, and mistreated appallingly for 14 days before being slaughtered for profit.
Thankfully, what happened to every one of these lovely dogs was very different.
This story is why it matters that you have helped us build ROLDA’s reputation locally.
Because of the support and generosity you and our growing family of friends worldwide have given us, our work is getting noticed here at home. One of Dana’s ambitions has always been to transform the attitude of Romanians who don’t appreciate the rewarding bonds possible between humans and animals – and help even the poorest experience the benefits.
It’s a pity that Sacha and Nero’s owners did not take advantage of our free sterilization programs we frequently run around here, as well as in several other locations in Romania and even in Ukraine, to enable pet owners to stay within the law – and prevent unwanted litters.
However, we are so relieved they know we are giving refuge to unwanted dogs.
Their heart-warming stories will all end happily ever after… with your continuing help.
Sacha and her puppies Leo, Stina, Adele and Tara have all been adopted and are now living happily in their new forever homes in Sweden.
