Winter Food Appeal

Winter can be extreme in Romania.During Siberian nights (and sometimes days) temperatures reach -30C making life difficult to people but also farm animals (if not well protected), pets and especially for abandoned animals, exposed to frostbite, hunger or freezing to death, in case of weak, sick, malnourished, injured (smaller)dogs or cats.

Food resources are very limited for street dogs, this is why especially during this time period, we feed more often the pack of hungry dogs from the industrial areas located outside the town-places with lots of abandoned, only skin and bones dogs.

It is hard not to be impressed seeing an abandoned mom struggling to keep their puppies warm, dry and with their bellies full. And often it becomes a discouraging and horrible experience. Weak puppies rarely survive in the wild and there are no words to describe their mother desperate behavior when she realize the battle is lost and her puppies died. She is licking them, she is pushing them with her wet and cold nose, she is going up and down, she even forget about her fears and go closer to people, looking like she is asking for help. Death doesn’t make compromises. But we, humans who care, can do our part to protect life and help the living creatures that matter for us, while it’s not too late.

says Dana Costin, the Founder of ROLDA.

During the winter time, we are asking for your help to provide enough food resources to the hundreds of dogs from our sanctuaries, to provide emergency food aid to poor pets from the villages, not to be a burden for their already impoverished families, to also be able to feed as much and as often as we can the packs of hungry dogs from the industrial ruins, outside the town.

One of my fears is that I might not be able for a day to feed my dogs. In time I realized that “saving” dogs is the easiest part of this mission. Whatever happens next: the resources needed, the time and energy dedicated to rehabilitate these scared souls, the management of the shelters…these are much more complicated. Especially if you aim to do things responsibly. And I do. And thanks to you, I can” concluded Dana her plea.

Donate a dog’ meal for winter by Paypal, online and safely!

Please join ROLDA campaign and feed a dog during the winter time. We didn’t set a goal, but we aim to collect 3000 meals  and use as emergency food for homeless dogs during the most difficult, critical winter days.

And yes, every little counts. There is no small donation and every EUR or $ will feed a dog a day! We are relying on your generosity to make this campaign successful! Thank you!

The list of donors names and the total amount are published (and updated) below. The list starts with donations made after 1st of January for “winter food appeal”
