Welcome to the Chefs for Pets Kindred Kitchen Challenge!

This initiative celebrates creativity, compassion, and sustainability by inviting you to create homemade meals or treats for your pets made mostly or entirely from leftovers in your fridge or pantry basics. Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure your recipe is safe, accessible, and eligible for consideration.

Goal

Prepare a homemade pet meal or treat largely using leftovers or common household ingredients.

Inclusivity

Recipes should be budget-friendly and avoid any expensive or luxury ingredients.

Safety

Your recipe must be safe for both pets and people to consume.

Please share a photo or video of both you and your pet enjoying the dish and use these hashtags:

Your Submitted Recipe Should Include

  • A clear ingredient list.
  • Step-by-step preparation instructions.
  • Estimated preparation time.
  • Optional cost estimate if new ingredients are used.
  • Please confirm that your pet safely consumed or tasted the dish.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submit your recipe in text format along with at least one photo or short video showing your pet and yourself with the meal.
  • Include a short story or note about why you chose this recipe or how it helps your pet (optional but encouraged).
  • Recipes will be reviewed for compliance and safety by ROLDA’s team and expert advisors before inclusion in the cookbook or publicity materials.
  • Limit submissions to one recipe per household per pet.

Selected recipes will be featured in ROLDA’s online cookbook, to be distributed globally.

Top entries may receive ROLDA merchandise, pet gift baskets, or be highlighted in ROLDA’s holiday campaigns.

Some of the Food  Toxic or Harmful to Dogs:

  • Chocolate (all forms, including cocoa powder, baking chocolate, white, dark, and milk chocolate).
  • Xylitol (found in sugar-free gum, candy, baked goods, many peanut butters, mints, and diabetic products).
  • Grapes, Raisins, Currants. Onions, Garlic, Chives, Leeks, Shallots (raw, cooked, powdered; includes foods with onion/garlic powder).
  • Avocado (flesh, skin, pit). Macadamia Nuts. Alcohol (including beer, wine, liquor, foods with alcohol).
  • Coffee, Tea, Caffeine (grounds, beans, energy drinks, sodas).
  • Cooked Bones (especially chicken, beef, pork – splinter and may cause injury or blockages).
  • Corn on the Cob. Raw Dough/Bread Dough (yeast can expand in stomach and produce alcohol). Citrus Fruits (large amounts; includes peels, seeds, stems).
  • Wild Berries (some are toxic; best avoided).
  • Rhubarb (leaves and stalks contain oxalates – can cause kidney failure).
  • Apricot/Apple/Cherry Pits, Seeds, Stems (contain cyanide).
  • Star Fruit (contains oxalate, toxic in large amounts).
  • Salt (large amounts or salty snacks; can lead to poisoning).
  • Milk (can cause digestive upset – most adult dogs are lactose intolerant, though not strictly toxic).
  • Raw/Undercooked Meat, Eggs, Fish (risk of bacteria, parasites, and salmonella).
  • Tobacco (not a food, but highly toxic if ingested).
  • Candy (especially chocolate or xylitol-containing, hard candy, etc.).
  • Fatty table scraps, greasy foods (can cause pancreatitis).
  • Human medications, supplements, vitamins (may contain toxic ingredients). Food with artificial sweeteners (xylitol, mainly).
  • Spoiled/Moldy foods, compost.
  • Certain nuts (especially macadamia, but others can be risky due to fat/salts).
  • Large quantities of dairy, ice cream, cheese (may upset digestion).
  • Always Double-Check: Some safe foods for humans can be dangerous for dogs, especially if heavily seasoned, sweetened, or prepared with unsafe ingredients.

Tips for Success

Focus on simple, wholesome ingredients you already have

Be creative but prioritize safety and nutrition.

Test your recipe with your pet before submitting.

Use clear, well-lit photos or videos.
