A New Era: The Transformation of ROLDA’s Beloved Inaugural Shelter—Little Haven

Twenty-three years ago, on a quiet patch of land in Galati, ROLDA opened the doors to its very first dog shelter, Little Haven. It was a humble beginning—a safe harbor for dogs in need, built on hope, compassion, and the simple dream of saving lives. Over the years, those walls have echoed with the joyful barks of thousands of dogs, each with their own story, each leaving their paw prints on our hearts.

For over two decades, Little Haven has been more than just a building. It has been a home, a haven. Dogs arrived frightened or abandoned, but within our walls, they found warmth, love, and safety. Our caretakers—many of whom have dedicated years of their lives to this cause—became family to these gentle souls. Beautiful bonds were formed: a gentle hand reaching into a kennel, a comforting voice in the dark, a shared moment of trust between human and dog. There were tearful goodbyes as beloved furry friends found their forever homes, and moments of heartbreak, as some passed on, hopefully to a kinder life.

Through it all, the spirit of our shelter remained: resilient, hopeful, and loving.

Today, we stand on the threshold of a new era. Our beloved inaugural shelter is undergoing a transformation, one that will not only honor its legacy but redefine the standard for animal care in Romania. We are proud to announce that Little Haven will soon become the first-ever cage-free dog shelter in the country.

Little Haven represents a revolutionary approach to sheltering. Here, our dogs will no longer wait in closed kennels. Instead, they will roam freely in thoughtfully designed spaces, playing, resting, and healing in a stress-free environment that nurtures their spirit and respects their freedom. We want this to be a community where every dog can rediscover their independence, strength, and self-worth.

When Chick first arrived at our shelter, an infection was eating away at her skin.

She was so desperate for relief that she had chewed away much of her own fur, leaving her wounds exposed to infection. But Chick’s spirit was unbreakable. She needed immediate medical help, and it’s as if she knew exactly where to go. Our Rescue Team met her at our gates, as if she was seeking out the only hope she had left. Chick wasn’t just found—she found us. Her determination to survive was the very reason she became one of our most unforgettable residents. Chick fought to reach us, and the moment she found us, her life began to change.

With each medicated bath and gentle touch from our team, Chick began to heal. Her appetite, once gone, returned with a vengeance. We watched in awe as she devoured her meals, savoring every bite. They were more than just meals; they were a demonstration of her will to live.
