Christmas is not only for people…

Every winter, ROLDA strives to provide food and warmth to thousands of homeless dogs in south east of Romania. Every Christmas, people make a wish list and Santa rewards them. For nobody’s dogs in Romania, there is no Santa, there is no Christmas. Let’s change this! You can become their Santa! This Christmas season, spread your magic power to a dog in need.

Special meals for hungry dogs on Christmas time

For the dogs living on the streets, Christmas is just another day when they starve. Once rescued by ROLDA, they are safe and well fed but many don’t get any chance to be adopted. Years pass and we grow old, together. Not many people open their house’ doors to senior dogs.

60% of #roldadogs are seniors. They are required special medical care and diet or soft food.
Be their Santa! Choose a gift to give to our 650 dogs this Christmas!

Meet the 7 oldest ROLDA veterans which teamed up with Santa to convince you to be very generous for our 350 dogs from our shelters.

It’s #dogsXMAS

Since our Christmas Food Appeal stated, ROLDA supporters continue to open their hearts and wallets and successfully delivered 37000 special meals to the most skinny, starving homeless dogs from Galati community.

One of my biggest Christmas wishes is to live in a World where no animal suffers because of people. If this day will happen sooner, it depends on each of us. It stays in your power and mine to transform this World to become the place we want to live in. Galati is the town I was born and live all my life. It’s the 5th largest town of Romania, located in one of the poorest region of the country, with an estimated population of 15000 strays. ROLDA two shelters are full with 650 dogs saved from distressful and dangerous situations. With us, they started a new life and enjoy the comfort of a cozy, safe place. As soon as some dogs are adopted, their places are taken by new rescued dogs. It’s an endless, emotional consuming “routine” which ROLDA team feels privileged to carry on. Every month, our staff is worried to find resources to pay the food and vet bills. During snow storms, our hands are full to remove the mountains of snow that cover the whole shelter – a big area of 15.000 square meters which is shoveled with our hands. Your donation for meals for dogs will get one worry off our head and help us to focus on more rescues. Help us fill their tummies on Christmas days!”

Many starving dogs now resort to eating plastic. Yes, plastic! Most are found around factories of big corporations that ignore the issue. Encourage these corporations to act.

Help us end their nightmare!

Years ago, I had a dream. My dream was to put an end to animal suffering in my hometown, especially to help the homeless, abandoned, and abused dogs find the love, respect and appreciation they deserve, and place them in forever homes. Little by little my dream is becoming a reality. I haven’t saved all the stray dogs in my community, but I’m getting there. I have an amazing staff and supporters who continue to help me along the way.

Last night, I woke up frightened. My heart pumping fast, hands shaking, tears in my eyes. I dreamt about my Printz (my first beautiful rescued dog, saved from death). He was all wet, full of blood, alone, in need of help. I could see him but this time, I couldn’t help him at all. I could read in his expressive eyes his hunger, pain and despair. It was more like a nightmare.

Being on their own, dogs like my Printz have freedom but they are so exposed to risk of injuries, abuses, diseases and starvation. Stray dogs are dependent on us as much as we, humans, are on them…once we get to know and love them! My Printz, alone, in my dream represents all the dogs I couldn’t save, the dogs who died alone in misery and silence. I woke up feeling depressed, but somehow, I knew I had to turn this nightmare into a positive thing…and that’s why I decided to tell you about it.

I was able to wake up from my nightmare, as all of you have. But these dogs can’t. Not unless we help them!

Christmas is the time of year when people celebrate and express the most sincere human emotions: generosity, kindness, compassion, love, appreciation. But we must remember that Christmas is not only for people…

From time to time, the memory of Printz comes up (this time it came in the shape of a dream) to remind me of my mission and the overwhelming plight of the homeless dogs in Romania. My dream for this Christmas is to end the nightmare these dogs relive each day. Even if it’s just for one day.

Big Surprises for Residents of Galati Retirement Center

To celebrate National Day, ROLDA host a special dinner for the residents of the Galati Retirement Center. To give our gathering an extra dash of holiday spirit, we decorated the center with
lovely Christmas ornaments, and we also spoiled the residents and the staff with thoughtful hand-made gifts created with love by Romanian artisans.

But our biggest surprise for the 150 residents of the Galati Retirement Center was Tarot, the tiny dog we saved from a boiling tarpit. We are thrilled to announce that Tarot has been
adopted and scheduled to meet his new family in Sweden on December 17—just in time to enjoy his first Christmas with them!
So, Tarot was on a mission before leaving Romania. He was determined to spread holiday cheer to all those in need, and he has not forgotten our fellow senior citizens. We believe that Tarot’s story can inspire anyone to appreciate and give thanks for the little things in life. It can also help us be more grateful that there exists people and organizations in the world who are devoted to helping others—people and animals alike.

Tarot is alive today because our generous supporters chose to help him. The elderly in retirement homes are cared for by dedicated staff and volunteers. In the end, it is compassionate people like you who make our work possible. ROLDA knows that without your generosity and humanity, our programs would have remained just beautiful dreams. But together with you, we can dream further, higher, bigger. We can #givehope where no one else will.
Thank you from ROLDA Team
