The US branch of ROLDA is acting as supporting organization for the global entity, ROLDA Romania who is rescuing neglected, abused and abandoned animals. Our work started in Romania, where homeless animal population – estimated to some millions – is one of the largest in the world. In 2026, we celebrate 20 years of being in front line for animals cause in Romania and 4 years of active support for animals affected by the war in Ukraine and we want to mark this moment by expanding our mission Worldwide by providing support to animals affected by natural or human made disasters.

ROLDA USA was created as supporting organization to raise funding for the ROLDA Romania campaigns and programs. To achieve this, ROLDA USA has invested in fundraising and marketing to spread the word, generate stakeholder interest and increase funding for our shelters in Romania and the microgrants for Ukrainian rescues.
The US branch covers the online fundraising for all ROLDA branches.
Notably, ROLDA USA remains the branch with highest contribution to Romanian projects and campaigns.

“Firstly, thank you for care about ROLDA mission and thank you for wish to learn more about our US branch. On this page, my colleagues and I added all the relevant information about ROLDA USA in order to show transparency and keep you correctly informed. It is difficult to compress 20 years in just a few lines, and yes, ROLDA USA is celebrating 20 years of existence which for me, it’s a very special moment to share. Founded with Merritt on the 04th of July 2006, ROLDA USA was the first external branch ROLDA Romania had. Back in 2006, we were determined to raise awareness and support for Romanian strays’ plight which were exterminated. It seemed like an impossible mission but we were helped by a master in putting words together. Thanks to his perseverance and loyalty, ROLDA USA survived over the years, until it was handed to Shannon who still helps us today. In the US, ROLDA is raising funds for dogs and cats housed in our private shelters and for the campaigns we run in Romania and since the war started, also in Ukraine. We make small steps to establish solid partnerships with a few like-minded organizations. The road has been long and difficult. Yet whenever I am near my animals and I can see the difference we all have made for thousands of them already, I have no doubt it was all worth it. And that there is still plenty of work to do! What is a Donor Advised Fund?
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support your favorite causes. If you have a donor-advised fund, DAF Direct enables you to recommend grants to the Romanian League in Defense of Animals (ROLDA USA), directly from your DAF (as long as your DAF’s sponsoring organization is participating).
How does it work?
1. Establish your DAF by making an irrevocable, tax-deductible donation to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program.
2. Advise the investment allocation of the donated assets (any investment growth is tax-free).
3. Recommend grants to the charities you support, with the option of being recognized or remaining anonymous.

Offer free materials to download from ROLDA Online Shop (e.g. window sticker (pet window decal) useful for the rescue team to know how many pets you have inside, in case of disaster).
