ROLDA is proud to be partnering with a local animal rescue team in Bethlehem to help dogs and cats injured, hungry and affected because of the ongoing conflict. Working with locals, we can provide emergency food, vet care and help with transport so animals can reach safety and life-saving treatment before it’s too late. Your donations help keep these animal rescuers going, continue to help give vulnerable animals a real chance of survival and rehabilitation.

With the ongoing conflict in Bethlehem area, many animals are abandoned or abused, injured, with no one to care for them. There are only a few shelters, overwhelmed because of the volume of animals who need food and veterinary treatment. There are many emergencies flooding the clinics and shelters every day. The locals are making huge efforts so they don’t have to turn away animals that have a chance to be saved and we are happy to assist them to write happy endings together.

The partnership with the local rescuers from Bethlehem is part of the Global Emergency program which ROLDA supporters sustain since we started to help animals in need outside Romanian borders. In Bethlehem the situation is dramatic in some moments, depending how the ongoing conflict evolves, especially due to cut off/complete lack of resources. We are raising funds to provide to local rescuers the essential food supplies, veterinary funding, crucial life-saving medicines and transport. Because of your support, we make sure that injured and abandoned dogs and cats receive care instead of being turned away. By strengthening the rescue’s capacity on the ground, we are able to reduce animal suffering and help locals to save lives.

By providing emergency vet care, medicines, transport for injured and abandoned animals in Bethlehem, we invest in strengthen a partnership with local rescuers which is vital especially in critical war conditions. By communicating regularly with the local rescuers, we understand better what they struggle with day by day, we can be in better position to understand and respect their cultural particularities, and of course, help support their long-term work.

ROLDA holds to the highest standards of comfort and care and control disease management is a top priority for us, in both our shelteras but we need help maintaining those standards and providing the best possible facilities for our dogs.

Whilst Romanian law currently prohibits the sterilisation of stray dogs (and their returning to the wild), ROLDA are operating sterilisation campaigns in poor communities, targeting the pets of low- income families who could not afford private veterinary care. These campaigns tackle abandonment– one of the primary contributing factors to the national homeless dog crisis – in two key ways.

In a shelter with hundreds of dogs, highly contagious diseases – such as distemper – could be devastating. This is why ROLDA imposes a strict quarantine period for all new rescued dogs, during which they receive broad-spectrum vaccines before they are let socialize with current residents of our shelter. However, vaccinations must be ‘topped-up’ annually with booster shots.
