20 years: The Journey from doing rescue in a small village in Romania to reaching animals outside the country’s border. Our supporters made it possible. Thank you!

20 years in front line of animal rescue

Romania faces the most severe stray overpopulation problem among all Eastern and South-Eastern European countries.
Millions of innocent animals are doomed to endure pain and death from the moment they are born. Before their eyes even open, millions of puppies die from starvation, illness, and violence. But our eyes are open. We can see their suffering. For more than 20 years, we have been doing our best to help them and to prevent more suffering.
Our dream is to break the cycle that leads to stray overpopulation, preventing the birth of unwanted dogs.
Tragically, the situation attracts much less media attention than countries like Greece, Turkey, and Spain. This is mainly because Romania isn’t a popular tourist destination. As a result, outsiders rarely witness the suffering of our abandoned and abused animals. Sadly, they remain hidden from view, ignored, and rarely covered by international media.
Support ROLDA in saving abused, neglected, and homeless animals in Romania! These animals never give up hope—they cling to it, just as we do every day. Hope is a precious gift that we can offer to the millions of voiceless, abandoned furry friends in Romania. What creature doesn’t fight to survive? Do they not struggle against impossible odds to protect and care for their young? We share more in common with our four-legged friends than we often realize.
And we have the power to transform their lives and to give them a safe, decent future. Without us? They have nothing, and no one. We work to demand justice for these forgotten souls who have no voice to speak up with.
This dream is possible. But not without your support.

With almost one million strays, the country faces one of Europe’s most urgent animal welfare crises. For many, life means hunger, injury, disease, and fear. For others, surviving in a cold, filthy public shelter can hardly be called a decent life. Since 2006, ROLDA exists to change this reality. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned animals while tackling the root causes of suffering through targeted sterilization campaigns, support for vulnerable pet owners, and humane education in local communities. Since 2021, we are also helping different other small charities across Romania affected by economic crisis.

ROLDA provides emergency relief and protection to animals impacted by war, natural disasters or crisis, preventing them to be exposed to danger, hunger, diseases and helps vulnerable pet owners to protect their animals, offer them a decent life and avoid abandon them.
Rescuing animals from puppy mills, treat, shelter and prepare them for adoption is part of our global efforts to make this Planet a better place for animals, the way we all dream it will be.
