Fighting the Siberian cold
7 full time employees making dramatic efforts to keep safe 500 dogs!

We, Romanians, know what to expect from a winter month but what happened this February went over our imagination. Temperatures during day of -18 C and during night -25 C. Pump water at both shelters freezing at least twice/day. Water freezing in contact with metal bowls. The cars stopped because of the freezing, same the electric generator for water pump. Mountains of snow to be removed from the outdoor area of the kennels, every day. It took hours and hours for our team, in deadly freezing to take out the snow that put in danger dogs safety. Because of the storm, the snow was put back immediately in the kennels therefore every morning the same work was performed, in freezing cold.

Road access was blocked only for two days, when the snow storm was the strongest and it would have been a disaster if it would have been longer then this because we had veterinary emergencies and the food distributor arrived up to the main road just on time, when we remained out of food.
The cold and snow will continue until end of February in
Thanks to a special appeal (as we normally don’t ask donors for funds to make salary payments) we will give a bonus to each employee of 50 EUR for this month but their dedication and tremendous efforts can’t be quantified in money. It is a reality that withoutthem, some of our dogs would have died covered by snow, because of hunger or thirst.

While you could read especially these days, desperate appeals from all over Romania from shelters where nobody removed the snow, where there was no food for dogs and where dogs remained buried alive in snow for days and days, at ROLDA everything move smoothly despite the weather challenge because our workers dedication and compassion for our voiceless friends!

ROLDA employees were not there to look good when reporters came to film the place, were not active because it’s trendy….they worked with passion and conscience because the dogs lives were in their hands and because there was nobody else to do it in their place!
