Please take a moment to read about the most important moments during 2012 year for ROLDA and for our rescued Romanian strays.
We still need, new or refurbished equipment e.g. a grooming table, a surgery table, closets, blood analyzer, autoclave, instruments and medical supplies.
On April, 4 ROLDA dogs celebrated the World Animals Day by welcoming Realitatea TV, the local branch of a national TV channel who made a short new report about our shelters.
Special thanks to Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge for publishing an extensive interview with ROLDA President, Dana.
Summer of 2012 brought more troubles caused by weather which leaded (and will continue to lead) sadly to more animal abandons, more farm animals’ sufferance and an increased poverty.
The terrible drought compromised the crops which made the prices for basic food to increase, in a country already suffering because the economic crises.
The lack of rain and the extreme hot days, in row for months made the wells draining one after another.
In total 5000 wells drained in this area leaving people and animals in danger. The entire region is considered at high risk by the authorities and the worst consequences are expected for the next spring, in case the weather will not be back to normal.
We expect a high number of farm animals like cows, goats, horses or donkeys to be abandoned because there is no harvest for them and people can’t afford to buy the animals ‘food either.
There is no shelter for horses in the region and the only way to forebode a catastrophe would be to build a small stable where the most urgent cases like wounded or dehydrated horses and donkeys can be helped and hopefully adopted out. Contact us if you’d like to sponsor the horses’ project in Romania!
In June month, ROLDA received the “Award of excellence” from Zonta Club, Galati.
Sarah, one of the ROLDA UK representatives, visited our shelters. Sarah’ testimonials about her latest two weeks stay in Galati region can be accessed online at www.rolda.org.uk
The local authorities visited ROLDA large shelter: the new elected Mayor of Galati, Mr. Marius Stan and the representative of the County Council, Mr. Bacalbasa, together with a representative of AMG and a lady from a local NGO officially met our dogs.
Santa Claus for our dogs:
Beginning of December, Mette and Harald delivered a lot of fluffy blankets for the small shelter’ dogs, collected thanks to Norwegian supporters donations. They also purchased quality food for puppies, moms and babies and weaker dogs.Mette received also donated some medical products from her dogs’vet.
Few days later, the Dutch group arranged a transport from Holland to our shelters with loads of dog beds, blankets, treats and donated food. Thanks to all these people, our dogs will feel warm Holidays!
Another year is about to pass with worries, stress, problems, sad moments but also great accomplishments that make worthing every struggling. If you wouldn't stand by us, if each of our supporters and sponsors wouldn't be here, this year would have pass with sorrows and tears.
It is dramatic to live every day with the thought that there is so much cruelty against animals all over the World, in Romania, in my town and we are able to help just a limited number of souls. But it's also a reality: we can't help them all and if we'll try to do more then the funds allow, will transform years of hard work into a hoarders type activity.
Right now, we are responsible for about 600 saved dogs from street, from the industrial abandoned buildings, etc. Every day that pass, our small staff makes efforts to keep this number of dogs fed, healthy, safe. These dogs need volunteers to socialize them, they need activities not to get bored. A balanced life will help those shy dogs become sociable and the wild ones get visibly tamed.
Please see here the updated financial report.
We will be starting a new year full of hopes following our beliefs that we will be able to improve even more the quality of life of the dogs while kept in the kennels, until being adopted. Building the running spaces it is a top priority but we identified other urgent needs. A new year will start ahead of us planning and building together. The reward is simple: smiling dogs faces, huged by happy people.
I wouldn't dream of any better reward. It justifies the sad moments caused by mean people, which are usually why we progress with difficulties, why these voiceless souls suffer in silence, why so much energy is wasted in wrong disputes.
I want to thank personally to each and every supporter who had a good thought for Romanian dogs, who helped in any way ROLDA over the years. I am grateful to our small team consisting of my hard working staff from both shelters, the vets, the local people that were helpful and tolerant. I am also grateful to ROLDA representatives from abroad, a growing team of loyal special people.
ROLDA will continue to be here for Romanian animals for as long as we will can.
While our dogs heart is partially given to their new (unknown yet)adopters, our hearts are conqured by the dogs that we rescued, now happy because of you, the dogs that will be rescued, puppies that already born or seniors who deserve last years of peace and happiness. What about your heart? Will you stand by us in the coming year to grow stronger?
